Sightseeing, expanded Whistler Mountain Bike Park terrain and mountaintop dining among the many highlights of the upcoming season
“It is always bittersweet to see our snowpack melt,” said Doug Macfarlane, VP of Mountain Operations at Whistler Blackcomb. “Reflecting back, we had an incredible winter and I’m proud of the efforts our team made to deliver an exceptional experience for our guests. Heading into summer, there’s so much to look forward to, from the magic of our sightseeing experiences to the excitement of our world-class Whistler Mountain Bike Park, and the many events and activities that make this season so special.”
Summer operations officially kick off on Friday, May 19 with the opening of Whistler Mountain Bike Park (WMBP). As is the case every year, trail zones and lift access will continue to expand as the snowpack melts. After a season-long closure last year, the Creekside Zone of the park will re-open to guests on June 10 with 11 km of new and expanded technical and jump trails designed for intermediate to expert bikers. The public is encouraged to attend the opening, which will feature brand activations and giveaways, prizes, and food and drink specials at the legendary Dusty’s Bar & BBQ.
Also on June 10, summer sightseeing on the PEAK 2 PEAK launches, with hiking trails available as snowmelt permits. On June 17, Peak Zone opens up, offering access to the stunning Top of the World summit. From here, guests can experience jaw-dropping views of the surrounding Coast Mountains from the Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye lookout, or via a network of breathtaking high-alpine hiking trails for all ability levels.
Among the many other highlights for summer 2023 include a return of signature, adrenaline-pumping events, such as Phat Wednesdays - the popular weekly mountain bike race series, and Crankworx - the world’s largest mountain bike festival. On June 23, the Mountain Top Feast dinner series returns to the Roundhouse Lodge on Whistler Mountain, and will run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until September 4. Down in Whistler Village, there’s also plenty to look forward to including the return of Whistler’s weekly Farmer’s Market and Summer Concert Series. It’s all part of an unmatched roster of activities and experiences for all ages, including bear viewing tours, a winding labyrinth of snow walls, ziplining, wildflower hikes, a family adventure zone, thigh-burning ascent trails and more. Guests are encouraged to visit Whistler Blackcomb’s Events Page for all the latest information on activities taking place at the resort.
This summer and fall, construction to upgrade Fitzsimmons Express will continue. The upgraded new lift will allow for increased uploading capacity out of Whistler Village and will be a game-changer for the WMBP upon completion. Access to sightseeing will shift to Blackcomb Gondola, while those accessing WMBP will upload via Whistler Village Gondola or Creekside Gondola. Guests are encouraged to visit Whistler Blackcomb’s Hours of Operation Page for information on any relevant closures and alternative uploading routes that may be in effect during their visit. Real-time operational information is also available at twitter.com/wbmtnops or via the lift and terrain status page on the resort’s website
As part of an early season booking offer, guests can also purchase a 360 Experience Pass before June 30 for the best rate. 360 Experience Passes are valid from June 10 – Sept 24, 2023, and include spring sightseeing on Blackcomb from May 20-22.
